To Induce or Not to Induce, that is the question...

For those of you that don't know this, I have decided to have a natural childbirth. The problem from the very beginning was that "I" decided this...alone. My husband can not understand, for the life of him, why anyone would want to feel pain. In the beginning of the pregnancy I explained my reasoning to him but it was never really understood, it was accepted but not understood.
So here we are at 38 1/2 weeks preggers and my Dr. has given me the option of inducing on Wednesday (because my cervix doesn't seem to be doing anything). To an impatient couple and an uncomfortable pregnant woman, this is a very hard offer to refuse. However, after much thought and consideration, I have come to the realization that this is already becoming an unnatural childbirth. Although DH has accepted my decision, this completely baffles him as he can't understand why I am torturing myself by remaining pregnant for possibly another 2 weeks when I am being given a get-out-of-jail-free-card but all I can reason is, if I'm not over 40 wks and there is no medical reason to induce then why do it? To make me more comfortable? Sounds tempting but I think I'll pass. LORD GIVE ME STRENGTH!

  1. girl stay strong!!!!!!!! induction leads to very very very painful contractions which leads to epidurls which ups your chance of a csection greatly!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had time to call you quote statistics but we are headed to camp...next best thing-
csection rate in this country is 31.8%, 50-75% of all inductions end in csection

the average duration of pregnancy is actually 42 weeks ( sorry not to discourage you), your body just might not be there yet!

"due dates" are whack. ultra sound and due date charts are not accurate!

plus if you are induced it wil be required that you be hooked up to fetal monitors which means laying flat on your back in bed and no getting up. possibly the worst and most uncomfortable position to be in for labor. how can a baby effectively move down if you are fighting gravity????

I could keep going on and on and on....but I wont. honestly if your doctor was here right now I would cuse him out for even suggesting it. Its not to late to switch to the midwives! lol

  2. Thank you Liz! Lisa, you know that I agree. Don't worry if you don't have the perfect answer for why you are going natural. Because I want to is good enough. I have given every reason in the book and still people give me flack.
Hang in there, you can do this! You are one of the strongest women I know!

  3. Okay Lis, I'm not gonna be like Chic and NOT be understanding. I guess I understand, I just don't want to think about you in labor and all the pain. I will wish for a swift and healthy labor. What name did you guys decide on?
